If you have ever been in love, or what you think might be love, you’ll probably recognize a lot of this. Because there truly is something about that first girl or guy you fall in love with.

I’m not talking about a simple crush, I’m talking about that person that suddenly make you look at flowers and trees and start making comments about clouds. It might have been love at 1st sight, or love at 8th sight. They still make you look at the world very differently. These people (hopefully) make you feel like you truly are beautiful. They make you feel loved and they make you feel comfortable. They make you say and do stupid things, that you never really would do if you weren’t “in love”. They make you feel content with who you are, not because you’re flawless, but because they tell you that your flaws doesn’t matter and that it makes you who you are. And you love them back, and you find them absolutely perfect. Not because they are perfect and without flaws, but because their flaws does not bother you, and their flaws only seem so small compared to all the great things you see in them. And your relationship seems absolutely perfect as well. It has flaws and you know it, but both of you are willing to work through your problems, because you truly believe it is worth it. And also because this love of yours have you trapped in a haze that you don’t really want to get out of. This person makes you feel confident that you can do anything, and confident because you know you’re not alone and that someone have your back. They might not be your super solid rock, but they make you to a solid rock, ready to fight anything.

Your first “real” love might also be your last, or it might be the first among many. But either way, the thing is that if you don’t end up marrying your “love”, you are kind of cursed for almost a lifetime.
This is because it is nearly impossible to get away from the first love of your life. Sadly they will always have a certain spot in your heart, even tho you might not have feelings for the person anymore. It might not always be the person you miss, but it will certainly be the memories, the relationship and the feelings you had, that you miss. They say that:

“The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else”

In this case it might actually be very true. But the problem is that as long as you don’t love someone else, your mind will always come back to this one person. This person will define how you look at other potential lovers and they will set the standard for your future lovers. You will always in some way compare other people to the first “real” love of your life. This is all very natural of course, because this is something you actually got “right” and both your mind and your body knows this so well, it will never let you forget.
This is also of course a curse you will always have to deal with. It will cause you lots of heartaches and tears. Lots of regret and lots of disappointing hope. And all the people you just can’t seem to fall for, even tho you really want to, because somewhere inside of you they just don’t fit the standard that you involuntarily have set for yourself.
Although I want to say, “fear not, there is always hope” I can’t help but to include, “Love sucks. Welcome to reality”.
